This issue sort of popped up all of a sudden today. The owner of the vehicle that Myung Soo crashed during the KSF special posted a message on his blog about how Myung Soo didn't apologize to him. I'll post the full translation of his post, along with a response from TEO PD and a message from Oh Il Gi, the IC Mentor for the KSF special.![]() First here is the Blog Post (It's really long, so beware~) http://m.blog.naver.com/quattro_rs4/220166901620 Behind the scenes story of IC Speed Racer, I despise Park Myung Soo! Today, I would like to talk about something that's a bit out of date. A lot of time has passed since then but it appears to have stressed me out quite a bit given that I still haven't forgotten about it. MBC Infinity Challenge, the variety show that represents Korea, ran a special called the "Speed Racer" special. The speed racer special, as the name suggests, was a meaningful challenge where the IC members jumped into the world of motor sport. At the time, it naturally caused people, that weren't interested in motorsport, to take an interest in motosport and cars in general. I've felt this before but I'm shocked by how powerful an influence TV has. Around the time the Speed Racer special aired, I also noticed a lot of people take interest in my car, there was also quite a lot of people that took photos of my car. It was a time where I obviously noticed that normal people were taking an interest in this. However my position in regards to this special wasn't not particularly great. It's because I've personally had to deal with a lot of damages due to the IC speed racer special. - I visited their practice sessions while lending them my car. Actually all was good up to this point Time passes and it's now just past early March in 2014. The Infinity Challenge (Members) put in a ton of work, during the speed racer special, to improve their skills. After Infinity Challenge started their speed racer special, they would borrow the circuit completely at least once a week or sometimes twice a week to practice. As they showed on air, they went and practised on every circuit that holds a motorsport event. They started off at the KIC course in Youngam, which runs the most amount of events (during the year) then moved on to Injae Stadium and the Taebaek Racing Park in Taebaek as well. They practised and practised. However during their practice sessions, the IC team borrowed most of their cars through the organisers of the Korea Speed Festival. Because the only cars the Organisers had were the Racing Tune (R-Tune) automatic cars, the other R-Tune cars were personally loaned from other racers. Actually given that they were still practising, I'm still not sure why they had to borrow racer's cars. They might have thought this was the best way to minimise risk. Because I wanted to help out in various ways, I lent my car a total of three times. Twice I've lent them R-Tune cars that were completely clean (No wrapping), the other time I lent them a car that had full wrapping done on it. From what I can remember I've personally lent them vehicles 3 times over the course of a month. During that time, I pretty much went around car-less. Besides I thought to myself "This is all for a good cause" so I happily went car-less. Not sure if I was just unlucky but I didn't even have a normal demo car during this time. - It wasn't an official recording but still I thought it was an extremely rare thing, to be able to see the members up close during one of their practice sessions. Personally, when I met Yoo Jae Suk during practice, I realised the term "God Yoo" really does him justice. I asked if I could take a picture and he took one with me. More so, it was really moving seeing him take care of every single staff member during practice. He really was amazing for a variety of reasons. - People who saw the episodes may already be aware but there was a few big and small accidents during the course of the Speed Racer special. Park Myung Soo drove my cars during all three times I've lent my car. While he was driving at the Injae Speedium, he got into a big accident. Obviously, the car that was in the accident was my car. He lost his grip during a fast left hander and hit the fence. - Here is my car looking worse for wear due to the accident. Because it hit the fence head on, the passenger side was quite crumpled. More importantly, because we hadn't taken out the air bag fuse, the side air bag blew open during the crash. There is a lot of stories on the internet about how airbags in Hyundai cars don't work but at least on my car they worked very well. Really well! The accident was quite substantial and it was shown multiple times on air. It was a fast left hander where you had to maintain a lot of speed. He then touched the dirt and apex with the left rear wheel and got into a spin. I would think it was around 100km/h. During the airing, Park Myung Soo can be seen talking about how painful it was. It would definitely have been painful. However there was a small problem here. I was not told about the crash right away. All I heard was that they were doing some practice runs. I didn't know about the accident and I had come to pick up some stuff from the car, this was when I first saw that it was involved in an accident. At first I thought it wasn't my car. Actually there is another fully wrapped HANDS Motorsport vehicle that was damaged (Which wasn't mine.) After figuring out it was my car, I personally went to check out how damaged it was. I then went to the organisers to complain. "Why did you hide the fact it was involved in an accident?" The organisers say that they were planning to have it secretly repaired and returned to me. Even back then I could not understand this. Even now I still don't understand this. Still the organisers worked hard to give me a lot of concessions after this point, so I sucked it up. I asked Inmotion Motors to repair the car. It took around 2 months for it be fully repaired. The parts that stopped the repair going quickly was the roof lining. As the airbag exploded, it also took out the lining and I had no choice but to replace it. Anyway even though it wasn't fully repaired but still ran, I participated in the first practice race with the IC members (The first practice race held at the Youngam KIC). During this time, the car was fully repaired. I received a total of $3000, which includes the car loan fee ($300 each loan, a total of 3 times) and car depreciation costs due to the accident ($1500). Personally I wanted to tell them to buy the car off me but realistically that was difficult to ask. Even then I wouldn't have had the cash to buy a new car. Actually up to this point I would have no reason to hate Park Myung Soo. However the moment where Park Myung Soo went from likeable to hated was during the very first practice race. I'm not sure what he was thinking to himself but at the least I thought he would apologise to me. Before the start of the race, I participated in the opening recording with the IC members. At that time, Yoo Jae Suk said "The owner of the car that Park Myung Soo crashed is here." At that point I raised my hand and talked about a few things with the members (While the cameras were recording.) However it was hard to understand Park Myung Soo's attitude during this point. At the time, whether it was for laughs or not, he would hide behind the car and try not to be seen. That's fine when the cameras are rolling but even when the cameras were off, he never came to me to personally apologize. Actually, in Park Myung Soo's position, he might have thought he just wrecked a TV Prop while recording. However, as the old saying goes, a single well spoken statement can pay off a thousand debts. While the cameras were rolling, he belatedly said "s...sorry" due to the insistence of everyone else around him and that is all I got from him. Even after the accident, he might have thought it was the organiser's vehicle but at the very least, when we were recording at Youngam KIC he would found out that he crashed my personal car. However I got absolutely nothing from him. I even started to think "What if someone else had crashed the car, how would they have responded." Anyhow from my position, Park Myung Soo was someone that I have a hard time understanding. Now whenever Park Myung Soo shows up on TV, I keep changing the channel. Actually I was starting to think that, comedy wise, he was starting to get a bit boring but now just looking at him makes me angry and uncomfortable. The car is fully repaired but the car isn't really running nominally. During this year's season, my ranking kept dropping. 2 Years ago, I bought a new car and finished the 2013 season at a satisfactory 4th position. This year, I was 4 places from the bottom. I'm not sure if I benefited from having a new car or if my driving has gotten worse. Lately I'm starting to think it might be the latter but the car keeps causing me trouble as well. It was bad enough that the car was involved in bad accident but now that my results have hit rock bottom, it's hard not to be frustrated and angry. It's hard stopping myself hating him and being angry so much given how bad my results were. Lately just thinking about him makes my blood pressure rise, even now as I write this on my keyboard. I've finally had the chance to say my story in a lot of detail. Next week is the last match of the 2014 season. Since it's the last match I'm planning to play it simply. Given how bad my race record is, there isn't going to be a lot to say and I will probably just end up talking about all the trouble my car is causing me. This year was quite an unlucky year right? ![]() Here is the FB Post By Oh Il Gi (Blue Suit on the left) https://www.facebook.com/ohdriver/posts/727570020661264 I'm not sure what sort of attention grabbing content this is. Seeing these sort of articles near the end of season is quite... I'm dumbfounded. It's not like Park Myung Soo was the one that leased the car. It's also not like motorsport is an accident free event. An accident can happen even in a normal rental car. The general gist of the situation was that this happened while a beginner race was using a racing car to improve his times In regards to this, isn't it the responsibility of the middle man, who actually delivered the vehicle, to deal with the car owner. Eventually the cause of all this is that the middle man didn't clarify their position correctly. He's a public figure and was the driver of the car involved, but to blame Park Myung Soo for your record this season is quite laughable. The fact that these sort of articles are being run makes me wonder how people will perceive the Avante class or the KSF and motorsport in general. More importantly, the company acting as the middle man should have resolved this issued properly or the KSF itself should come out and say something about this to resolve this, shouldn't they? To be honest, maybe it's just me but even now, as a racer, I'm still thankful of the IC team, for getting into these cars not even adjusted to their bodies and attempting this challenge, never worrying about injuring themselves. However if there was a problem with the car, it got into an accident and the person is in pain. However the car owner has still not apologized. If this was the case, what would you think? I can understand the car owner being upset but please change your aggressive and witchhunt-like title. Also anyone involved in motorsports and reporters in general, please refrain yourselves. Rather than writing articles about the issue, write about the actual problem being discussed. ![]() And TEO PD's Response http://media.daum.net/entertain/enter/newsview?newsid=20141031194304849 Back then, If they believed that Park Myung Soo's apology was lacking then we would have tried to apologise through various methods but hearing about their dissatisfactions through their blog makes me feel quite sad. We believed that the organisers of the KSF and their agency would post a response to the accident car owner's post and were waiting for them. However he just got a call from the organisers and they said they won't be making any official statements. Back then, the process of borrowing the track and cars, along with the running of the events were all organised by the organisers. We also heard that they had been in constant contact with the owner of the accident car to follow up on issues. On the day of the accident, Park Myung Soo suffered severe bruising and mental shock. He had hurriedly left to get treatment in Seoul and at that point, the car owner was not present at the Injae Circuit and so he was unable to meet him. During an accident, it's only naturally that we also worry about the car, the owner and Park Myung Soo alike. After that, the first time the owner meet with the IC members was at the Yeongam circuit, where the IC cars went up against 9 racer cars. From what I remember, the members apologised to the car owner during the opening recording but it appears that it wasn't enough. If they believed that Park Myung Soo's apology was lacking then if they had told either the organisers, agency or the us, the staff members, then we would have apologised much faster, hearing about it now through their blog and news articles is quite unfortunate. |

Thank you LB~ Oh Il Gi's response is aw <3 Tae Ho PD put it nicely, but seem quite upset about the way the blog writer handle all this jazz. As for the guy, seem like he basically need a scapegoat for his unfortunate year and there you go, we got Myungsoo, fresh and raw. So comfortable. How did the public respond the articles, thou? And to Taeho PD and the mentor's response? Generally. |

Earlier it seemed like most were siding with the owner but after Oh Ill Gi's post, most seem to be in agreement with the mentor. If the owner indeed had a problem, then he should have addressed it earlier. It's now almost 6 months old now, mentioning it at this point seems rather bizarre and the way he wrote the title and post in general seems to very attention-grabbing. Of course there is still the "lol, expected from Park Myung Soo" type responses and there seems to be a few racing drivers that are annoyed by normal people thinking that the cars are disposable (Some people were saying that the guy should have just gotten a new car etc) but in the end, the mentor's words seem to be the logical one. The KSF should have resolved this earlier and the driver should have mentioned it earlier. KSF and MBC have already stated that they have discussed this internally and have no plans to make an official statement, so TEO PD's phone statement with OSEN news is the only official word we'll get from the IC team. Take that how you will but it probably just means that the facts of the recount is correct, it's just that the message wasn't delivered amicably. |
