I like the ideas of Park Myung Soo, when elected a new MC for episode 87 was fun to see another way to run the program. It would be good to give a chance to the other members of Infinite Challenge lead, especially knowing that everyone has a great capacity for it. Also the idea of going abroad more I really like, as they have done excellent chapters when they have traveled, for example Hawaii or Jamaica. Edited by chepis_2, May 4 2014, 10:39 AM.

I wonder how IC will change if YJS is no longer the 'MC'. I guess the show would still work with a different leader, but I have doubts regarding having the other members MC. They each have their roles and no one does MCing better than JS. |

Well they make it pretty clear that this isn't a vote for a new MC but a "leader" so I'm guessing Jae Suk will still be the main center MC irrespective of results. What I'm guessing we will see is more of a liaison figure between the members and the staff. Watched the episode again and found a few more points. -Noh Hong Chul has finally gotten his gallbladder removed. They mentioned how they found a growth in it last year and now he's finally gotten it removed. He also got his anal fistula removed as well. -Park Myung Soo has three cars, an SUV (His Range Rover), a sports car of some sort and a sedan. He was also telling Jun Ha that the two of them should leave the show next year to make way for others. -Yoo Jae Suk's comments about whether the show was in a crisis or not was really significant. Actually his whole speech was pretty interesting. "Just like Park Myung Soo said, we have recently come last in the ratings and not just once or twice. I'm sure you're aware of this. Looking at that alone, we are indeed in a crisis situation however! This is what I believe. Do you know what a real crisis is? A real crisis is when you're in a crisis and you're not aware of that crisis. Do you know what's an even bigger crisis than that? Not doing anything even when you know you're in a crisis, that in itself is a bigger crisis. And if you're aware you're in a crisis and don't do anything about it, trying to survive for yourself. That is a greatest disaster that we face and something that we must not do." "Our goal must not be ratings, our goal is laughter. That is the standard that Infinity Challenge must uphold." Yoo Jae Suk also talked about trends. "We mustn't fall behind. We need to know how to read the tides, However Infinity Challenge would not be here if we had been swayed by trends. We can only make new trends by focusing on things that are currently not a trend. Everyone, are you going to chase after trends or will you be making trends?" |

Here are my thoughts about each candidate after watching the episode: YJS - I can't say I really like his pledges, but the idea of punishments is good (IC used to give out punishments for losers, not so much anymore). I like his overall thoughts though. I would prefer a great episode over ratings. I would prefer they focus on making it enjoyable for viewers. And his insights are so applause-worthy. (Why isn't he saying this stuff to the RM crew?) Anyway, I think YJS is a capable leader and I see nothing wrong with him continuing to lead. However, since it is for the next ten years and all, I do believe it would be nice to see what the others are capable of and how they evolve once they take over leadership. No matter how much I love YJS, I believe he is stagnant in his humor. He's funny and I really really love him for it, but still he talked about creating trends and imo YJS has never been one to create trends (even if he may have helped in some way, it's not his). JHD - His pledges were very forgettable and even now I can't remember anything he said other than that ratings go up when he cries. BUT, I think JHD is the second most capable person after YJS to lead. He gives me a sense of stability and that we would get something worthwhile to watch and not something hectic and a turnoff. He's like a mix of NHC and YJS, which is a perfect mix to me. HaHa - Very underwhelming. I can't remember his pledges. Doesn't seem very capable to me also. The Jamaica SP which he was supposed to lead could have been much, much better. HaHa is a very good entertainer, I just don't think he can lead consistently. NHC - I love his energy! At first, I was definitely on his side. I love his pledges! BUT! BUT, while watching the episode I could really see that the other members ie JHD and YJS really didn't like his pledge to reveal anything and everything. I am adverse to the idea of forcing the members because these are entertainers and seriously if they really need to protect a private space for themselves that is just for themselves then they have the right. It's just sad to know that if they really have to, YJS especially will do anything to for a show even if he has to go against his own wishes. So while I love NHC's pledge, I think it's too extreme. However, although I think NHC would make a very crazy leader, but I also believe he's capable. PMS - His whole candidacy is all over the place. Sometimes, I'm not even sure he's serious about the stuff he's spewing, since a part of it he's going against his own character. One thing I know about PMS is that it's all about his mood swings which will make him a very lousy leader. In the past, whenever he's taken over the reigns he's also been more like a tyrant and have stifled the other member's ability to entertain. The What If when he was an MC was only good because he was a disaster. Of course, the election isn't voting for a new main host, but if PMS's ideas only goes so far as sticking members in an ice box like in the What If episode, then meh. I also did say this before too that I'm not that fond of IC recording overseas. Episodes with them abroad aren't their best episodes especially that they have communication challenges and/or IC is divided into groups that go and groups that stay in Korea because of funds. (Plus, since IC is already stretched short, where will they get the money?) When the members split up, unless it's a chase episode, at least some part of the special lacks. (That's about how they do overseas sps nowadays though. I know some of the past episodes with New Zealand? (haven't seen that episode) and the Desert Island was said to be epic.) JJH - His pledges are very good. There's just too many flaws that the other members were pointing out. And once they did point out the negatives, he never had a great reply to sell his own properly and confidently. I think JJH would make a bad leader. He isn't the type that is able to deal with something right away or possibly going off script. I wanted to be unbiased, but personally after looking at the candidates this way, I feel like I'm gravitating towards YJS in the end. I think the ones who have the upper hand are YJS, JHD (even though his pledges were nothing), and NHC who was the only person (aside from YJS's calm but wise speeches) to sell himself well. HaHa is very average. PMS and JJH I think no one would be willing to take a chance with them as a leader. Anyway, PMS have been given one too many chances in the past and if anything I'd like one of the younger Mudo guys to have a chance if it isn't YJS. Edited by kanu_x, May 10 2014, 06:09 AM.

About the episode itself, GOODNESS I love this episode. I miss these kinds of episodes where it's just the members. All they did was talked and talked and then talked some more, but why do I love it so much? Iono, probably some IC fans like myself who appreciate the guys just being themselves love this stuff. I know that my family would never be able to sit down and watch this episode, even though I've been showing a great many IC challenges to them for a while. |

I had mixed feelings about this whole premise of the special. On one hand it was great fun to see the cast teasing and bickering with each other, but I was a bit disappointed with the poor efforts in which some of the members pitched their plans and the overly comedic vibe for a special that is supposed to address the current state and the future of the program. For me at least, I would rather have a special that is more askin to ep230 than this. I liked the concept as Korea are having their own national polls, but I found it hard to take this episode seriously given the nature of the topic at hand. Nevertheless they did bring up very valid points in the discussion. I was impressed with JS statement about the 'crisis' and and I laughed at JHD tears bringing more positive ratings even though those moments are at the finale of a long-term project so naturally it would receive higher ratings (though it was still funny how he brought it up!). IC having simpler games was a valid suggestion as well. I appreciate IC pursuit specials as they are more elaborate than what RM would have. I recognise that sometimes the PDs could be more thoughtful on their planning for a 'game' special but at the same time I do not wish to see them regress to very simple, tried and true games (although they can still be very entertaining!) when the PDs have upped the standard of what games for variety shows could be. Ultimately, there has to be a right balance. I enjoyed NHC insane energy, but I think the members' gossip in the show is already at an entertaining level imo. Overall, I enjoyed the special for what it is, but it didnt cause me to have a heightened urge to vote online for this. While the members did bring up some good points like Haha about building a tighter knit unity and PMS on rotating MCs and more overseas specials, I wasnt really convinced in the way they pitched their ideas. JS gets my nod of approval based on this part of the special considering that the rest of the cast did little to impress. But one thing is for sure. It was great to watch IC again. |

I think this special was extremely rushed to fill in the May gap that resulted because they had to scrap the detective special + change in schedule in KSF. That could be why a lot of the campaign ideas seem a bit haphazard and lacking. They probably had less than a week to prepare for it. Not that it completely excuses it thou but still any episode that involves the members just bickering with each other is usually worth the price of admission. I think the issue I have with Jae Suk's overall premise is that his promises just seem very generic. It's just a "We'll do better! We promise" rather than offering something fundamentally different to what is currently offered on the show. At least Jun Ha's idea and Haha's Season idea offered something radically different, even if they are not completely viable. I would rather they go in absurd directions rather than take the safe route. Jae Suk's most absurd idea was the "punishment" concept but even then, I thought Jun Ha's "3 strike and you loose your pay" was a better punishment idea than Jae Suk's "Get Slapped in public" idea. Hong Chul's persona during this special was fun to watch for his sheer lunacy. His idea of revealing everything is a bit extreme but you know what, it's something completely different and I wouldn't mind seeing a normal citizen try and live with Hong Chul for a day. It would be interesting to see how they manage with Hong Chul's energy level and extreme OCD. Myung Soo...hmmm....he seems to be set on just playing the joker role in this special, parodying typical Korean politic tropes rather than actually trying for the leadership role. It's not necessarily a bad thing but seeing Myung Soo take a back seat role again is slightly disappointing and it sort of highlights the fact once again that Myung Soo's energy level is not as high as it used to be. Haha seems to be another one that is going for more character comedy than actual campaign ideas. In some respects, I think Running Man has affected his character in IC, in that he seem to keep trying for more "kiddie" roles, one that focuses on extreme characterization and simple laughs. I liked his older characters such as "reporter Haha" and "Hyung Don's most awkward friend" and "Myung Soo and Haha combo." Nowadays, he seems less likely to make fun of other members for laughs but rather places more importance on trying to go it alone. We'll see how this special evolves over May. It's still a nice special but it does seem extremely rushed. Edited by lordbordem, May 11 2014, 03:59 AM.
