Hmm lets go through the episode point by point. The punishment (Hand Washing) was so-so. It was fairly short and I feel like it would have been better if they had just fitted it into last week's episode. The issue with this sort of hidden camera segment was that customers instantly got suspicious when the washing machine isn't making the right noises and the clothes disappear. Clothes starting to disappear from an enclosed machine is just too abnormal to just hand wave away. So they keep having to reassure them and revealing the skit early, which breaks up some of the humour, especially when the customers look extremely disturbed. But that's all forgiveable because the Detective special is getting off to a great start. Getting a professional profiler (Yeah yeah I know, pseudo science) and crime scene investigator, Pyo Chang Won (His twitter https://twitter.com/DrPyo) to teach the numbers and provide case examples was a pretty good move. I loved all the examples he had the members do. The sudden recognition test was interesting to watch and you can see Dr Pyo constantly leading the members in the direction he feels fit, even after telling them to never be swayed by other opinions. It might be because the majority of them are comedians thou because their eye for detail is amazing. Combined, they pretty much got every single characteristic of the sudden guest. The crime scene investigation part (The missing link section) was interesting as well. All of the little details that members had to find to deduce what happened at a crime scene. Crime scene spoilers Spoiler: click to toggle Then you have the murder case at the motel. Rules were simple, they were given a scenario and had to find the real culprit. There was 4 culprits (The motel owner, boyfriend, food delivery man and next door guest) and one of them had killed the boyfriend's girlfriend. The members were asked a draw a paper out of the box and it would describe their role and what their base argument/motives were. There was quite a lot of detail in the case description which I unfortunately can't remember off the top of my head. But the general gist of the case was that late at night (I believe it was 2:30AM), a boyfriend and girlfriend borrow a room at a motel. The couple then starts to fight and the boyfriend storms out of the room. Later a food delivery man comes to pick up dishes and finds a set of keys dropped on the floor. The delivery man hands to key to the owner and leaves. They also state that the delivery man went on holiday the next day. The boy friend then returns at 7:00AM. At 7:30AM, he goes to the owner because he can't find his keys. The owner then accompanies the boyfriend to the room, where they discover the dead girlfriend. The girlfriend had died by asphyxiation (There was clear marks around her neck indicating strangulation) and her wallet was on the ground and missing all its cash (She had around $800 in their). The next door guest testified that he heard arguing in the couple's room at 3AM. There is also CCTV installed in the corridor. BUT! It only captures part of the corridor and does not capture the area in front of the couple's door and the guests's door. The Delivery Man was seen on CCTV coming to pick up the dishes. The owner was also spotted doing rounds in the corridor at 4AM. The boyfriend was seen when he left the room after fighting, returning at 7AM and then returning again with the owner at 7:30AM. Then it was testimony and cross examination of the suspects. Case spoilers Spoiler: click to toggle Overall, I found the motel case scenario to be really interesting, only tempered by my own frustration at being unable to ask other questions. If the actual full episode case is even half as good then it's going to be an amazing case. Really looking forward to it |

I loved this episode! I like puzzles and mind games so this was very refreshing. Also, I am a big fan of BBC Sherlock so it was quite amusing to see all the references made in the episode. A writer must be a fan. (And Yoo Jae Suk parodying Benedict Cumberbatch is so cool) |

I really liked this episode! It's amazing how the members were really balanced on being serious about the cases, yet still put in humor so it's not like a drama. Huge difference in presentation from another similar show I watched where they had the same theme. I preferred IC's take on the detective theme, where they had serious thoughts/thinking exercises + comedy thrown in vs just being random and fooling around I've also read most of John Grisham's books and love how they had an homage to him at the end. |

Is there a part 2 to this detective special? edit: Never mind. Just saw the messages on the shoutbox. I've been slacking off in my IC viewing and this ep was a good re-introduction. The final game was really tough but they did a great job despite being non-professionals. I have a question though. Towards the end, when revealing the real culprit, the real detective told them to narrow the list of suspects down to those who would have had access to the room at 4am (i.e. the delivery guy and the motel owner). Why 4am though? Did they mention that as the victim's time of death or was it something I missed out? Edited by figarofigaro, Mar 20 2014, 07:56 PM.

4AM is the time being mentioned because it was the time when key was found, so any time before was impossible because no one could enter the room. We also know that the key was in the owner's hand after 4am until the owner reopens the door with the boyfriend at 7:30AM. To explain it further, we know that the girlfriend was alive when the boyfriend left since she was heard arguing with him up until he left the room. We also know that the girlfriend was killed between then and at 7:30AM when the body is found by the owner/boyfriend. That leaves the time frame of 3AM to 7:30AM. 4AM is when the delivery boy finds the key and the time when he hands the key to the owner. Thus the only culprits that have access to the room is the two people involved at the 4AM time slot. I'll be honest, it's a bit of a jump in logic, especially when the delivery boy is considered innocent just because he handed the key back (arguing that his actions don't fit the M.O. of a killer). The only key evidence is the security camera and that was already shown to have massive blind spots. |

I see, I forgot about that. Thanks for clearing it up! Agreed about the explanation for the delivery boy's lack of culpability. It doesn't make him completely innocent given that he had even gone for a holiday the next day, but the detective himself conceded that logical reasoning alone wasn't enough to solve the case when he was making the explanation and he went by probability.
