# Ha~ Fooled Weren't you?!

After working as a reporter during the <Summer Variety Show Camp> special, she is now back again, this time as a bachelorette ghost. Maeng Seung Ji tries to take the horror genre by storm as well in her reverse surprise camera. Operation Name: "Hey, Don't you know me?" The 7 members are in the top 1% for greatest scaredy cats in all of Korea. We fill up the front and back attack zones then it's time to go ready~ action! Who will end up going on the scaredy cat special list?

# We are looking for a new variety show PD!
Where you live doesn't matter, age has no barriers, full of passion! Around a thousand teams applied for "Please take of IC." The wide variety of future PD applicants have come to give their 1st presentation. They present their proposal in front of the members. We have chic primary school kids, a bunch of highly playful male high school students, a female high school student that is full of variety show sense and plays around with the members and a middle aged applicant named Park Tae Min that is aiming for the Chusok Special. I thought the presenters themselves were funnier and better than the ideas they proposed. I had a lot of fun watching this episode but I'm not sure if the follow-up is gonna be good.

The glasses kid was adorable and so eloquent for his age, but his idea seemed boring.

I really disliked it that they kept giving that one girl (out of the three) attention. I get it, she's pretty - but she's not even doing anything remotely interesting! Her friends (especially the one who speaks like a professional announcer) were funnier. Plus she's so young, c'mon. It's really creepy.

Just answering questions

-JHD's section in the surprise camera was cut out because it was goose bump inducingly boring. He pretty much realised it was a surprise camera the moment he stepped into the room so he probably didn't react at all.

-The kid said a whole bunch of things during that scene actually.

"I hope you have as much fun as possible during today's recording. That's how we will get genuine laughs."

"There won't be any extra recordings, I can make this as interesting as possible through editing"

The members told him roughly that "You may work hard but sometimes things don't work out" and he replies "We just need to do what we want without restraints. I don't feel any pressure, i'm really happy."

As for his actual recording idea, it's actually an old "Human Condition" idea, where if they want to eat something then they need to personally collect all the ingredients themselves. So they need to catch their own eels to make the eel soup etc.

On a personal note, I'm not convinced that this was a good special. It seems like a lot more trouble then it is worth but it's also brought up some worrying social trends in Korea that I'm not happy about. There is currently a lot of talk about this episode with people complaining about how all the ideas were boring, how IC was promoting Japan in a positive light during the Independence Day weekend by not editing out the Japanese introduction that one of the female high school teams did, how the ideas were picked just because they were from kids and not because their ideas were good etc along with other stuff like the whole Ilbe thing with Hyosung and Crayon Pop.

The increase in negativity in general along with a blatant disregard for other cultures, standards, opinions (Even when taking into account past history) is getting almost repulsive and frustrating to see. These days expressing an opinion that doesn't side with popular opinion seems to be a one way ticket to hell within Korea. You can't even have a proper debate about past Korea presidents without everyone getting in arms about how you're "disrespecting" the dead. I'm sorry but we can still have a civilised discussion about previous liberal presidents without it resulting in being called an Illbe meh or some other personal insult.

Meh, I guess cultures are slow to change for the most part~

Hmm never thought that a small section just speaking the language would bother Korean viewers that much. It's not like they stood on tables and waved Japanese flags around

On the other hand, I wasn't really expecting much in terms of ideas from the viewers but the winning ideas weren't extremely good. I think it was probably the personalities of the presenters rather than the ideas themselves that was the deciding factor... I think out of the two, the MT idea is probably going to look better as a final product but we shall see. This definitely puts more emphasis on the members to be funny to cover up for the amateur directing so there might be some saving grace from all this :)

Lol what do Hyosung and Crayon Pop's Ilbe scandals have to do with IC???

I think I read an article where Taeho PD said that he picked the ideas based on how passionate the presenters were and that they might flesh out other ideas at a later time (like the Sherlock and Blood Type-inspired games). Those two definitely have more potential than next week's specials.

And I agree with Bollocks. Personally I hate those faux matchmaking games and I never find them funny cos the concept's gotten so old. It should just remain in the X-Men era. The members will have to put in more effort to tease and involve the guests to make the show more watchable.

As an aside - perhaps Korea is still too monocultural and collectivist at the moment. I'm not sure but there might be other online communities that will be more open to other opinions. It can't be that it's Ilbe Vs. every other community right?

Just mentioning the Illbe stuff because some of the comments I've seen attached to the IC articles just remind me of the comments from that stuff as well along with the whole blowing up issues way beyond proportions. Then again that's not a Korean specific problem so i guess i'm annoyed at the internet in general :olddays:

Yeah TEO PD posted on Twitter after everyone started complaining about horrible the ideas were and that he picked the wrong people. I'm almost inclined to say it's just a whole bunch of people that are jealous that someone else got picked besides themselves but that's going a bit too far along the "bonkers" line~

On passion alone, Lee Ae Joon (The Male Kid that got chosen) was definitely the right choice. He seems to be pretty good at expressing his ideas and has this almost mature adult like quality in regards to his communication skills and general thinking. (The quotes above somewhat illustrate that) But the his actual program idea was still a bit meh and it does seem like the staff tried their best not to interfere as much as possible. I just kind of wished they did thou.

And yes to no more faux match making stuff unless it's a parody. Those shows did for a reason after Love Letter, X-Man, War of The Roses, Every Show In The Early 21st century. But then again people seem to love the Monday Couple on RM so I guess the concept still has a large following.

You know what is interesting thou. It's just the large amount of overlap in ideas that was mentioned during this episode. Almost all the ideas were either some sort of pursuit game, something about tricking each other, some sort of horror special or a parody of that new film "Snow Piercer." IC has done plenty of other specials like lectures, sports, debates etc yet when given the chance to make their own episode most people seem to want to do a pursuit game or a game of tricks. Not that it's a bad thing or anything but it seems like IC is still being mostly remembered for their pursuit games more than anything.

@figarofigaro

Well it kind of actually is in some ways. You definitely don't see other communities on the news as often, communities like SLR Club, Bobaedream, DC Gallery or even the numerous Naver, Daum cafes. Illbe is just on the news a lot because they tend to express opinions that are very negative towards former Liberal presidents like Noh Muh Hyun, Kim Dae Jung etc. Being negative towards them seems to be a massive no no right now, which is kind of funny given how both were also somewhat unpopular for their NK leaning policies. But yeah, you could bad mouth Lee Myung Bak, Park Geun Hye, Park Jung Hee and a lot of people wouldn't bat an eyelid yet the moment one of the liberal presidents come up, everyone throws a fit and considers you the devil's incarnate.

This kind of one-sided negativity isn't healthy for proper discussion and arguably it isn't JUST a Korean issue in any respect. To bring this all back to Infinity Challenge, you still see a lot of people talking about how useless PMS, JJH, Haha and Gil is on the show no matter what they do or complaining about how TEO PD has lost his touch, is extremely politically motivated, how the show needs to go back to its roots, how everything IC does is just plagiarised from Japan etc etc

Some of these opinions may be valid given enough explanation but that is the issue. They usually never really explain in detail why they hold these sorts of opinions, it's usually just "I hate it because that." It's just kind of funny in a way as well, Yeah! IC should go back to its roots!...so you mean go back to the days when they were racing with trains and getting like 2% ratings or do we just ignore "that" root because it doesn't fit your opinion? Or even if we go back to the first episode of the latest season, they had a bloody golf game with SS501 and Michelle Wie while still playing the Ah-Ha game. Maybe they are too young to have watched those episodes but I have and I very much not like them to go back to their roots if it means a repeat of stuff like that.

Rant Over~ :olddays:

It's probably the work of stereotypes. Once you regard someone in a certain light, even in instances where the person manages to prove that stereotype wrong, you'll still ignore them and bring up the bad incidents again.

A party might be democratic or liberal, but doesn't make them perfect. Most progressive parties are better than conservative ones, but they shouldn't view politics in such simple terms or think the party is 100% right. I think the ones you've encountered are too caught up with either their "conservative" or "liberal" identity to accept any criticism. Kinda immature, imo.

Maybe it's because I'm a PMS fan, but there's no way he's useless on IC. He's like the "center" of the show - even the other members have mentioned that. Anyway, I hope they won't do a Snowpiercer parody any time soon. I really want to watch the actual film and I don't want to see/hear any spoilers, but it's not airing in my country :'( They might be doing it for New Year's Day, but that timing's not good either because the buzz for Snowpiercer would've died down by then.

People are always nostalgic about the past, but if you go back and watch the old shows, the humor and gags used back then have become really dated and they wouldn't work in this era.

I watch some Japanese variety shows and I've always wondered what show exactly it is that I.C copied? There is no J-variety show I've watched that has reminded me of I.C. Yes, there are shows where there are challenges but not in the way that I.C does them.

Oh heavens, I.C should not go back to it's roots AT ALL. I agree that the humor and gags have really become dated in some episodes. As in sea-weed in your teeth type of dated (I cringe when I see a show do that). I also think that I.C has in a way matured and the humor has changed. The only aspect, I think that I.C should essentially not lose track of is the challenges and what I like to call "creative learning" type of episodes. For instance, the Green House effect episode was hilarious but at the same type I thought to myself, I do that. I leave the shower on when I'm soaping myself. I really think they've strayed from the challenges though and I liked them. Things like F1 racing and the Wrestling really made me fall in love with the cast and love the show more. It's those type of episodes that when you reminisce about really hit you hard. However, Oh Gosh, I'm remembering the first episode of I.C I watched which was the Thierry Henry one and *shrivel.* Yeah, do not go back to those days. Noh Hong Chul thrusting towards Thierry Henry was just... funny but so embarrassing to watch. Oh Gosh, I'm now remembering the NY episode when he was trying to make that guy thrust towards him. UGH.

Actually i'm looking forward to what those kids can do while using very generic ideas. Maybe they can bring in some new comedy which is funnier among kids that adults do not know of. Fresh concept? Well kids being kids have their own world.

Personally, i think Taeho PD choose "Passion" for the IC special for a "SPECIAL" reason. I mean which program/channel/broadcast allow kids to become PDs and present them on national TV?
