![]() The Dirty Dangerous Difficult Subbers Present... Episode 227 - Operation: Land In New York Part 2, The National “Point” Vote Results Credits : acestriker32, armx, Bollocks, Dryaa, Inchi76, jamieguo28, jm.m, ka6_jeram, Kira_Crow, lordbordem, lushtea, magichouse, oneechan131, rayevang, shiphire, skyccm, togsoo1206, VandalIce, ZiyaadXD DDD Team News Nothing much to say this week besides Merry Christmas and Happy New Year, this will obviously be our last release for 2012 and we are ending the year on a high note by finally completing this arc. Also we have got some new members since our last release, please welcome liongardz and Sharks~ They will be helping out with typesetting and editorial work respectively. We still need more members so please do keep applying (More details below) As for our schedule, our next release will be EP220 and EP221 (Telepathy Special) and the first of those will likely come out sometime after mid January, we could get them out slightly faster but we want to do some translating of some of our backlog onscreen scripts so we have something for new members to work on as practice for the long term. Not much else besides that, preparations for our move to zetaboard is progressing nicely and we have an almost final design ready on our test board. We would still love more feedback on it so please do feel free to tell us what you think of our new design here http://dddfanclub.com/index.php?showtopic=39 Finally we are looking for more members to join the subtitling team. We are especially looking for translators (Korean to English mostly but Chinese to English would work as well) along with editors and experienced typesetters. Translators are self explanatory but we do require people that are willing to work with the team consistently for at least a reasonable amount of time. It’s too disruptive on the team if you join and then decide to leave within the first couple weeks and it’s also disheartening especially if we have taken the time to start training you on the work flow system within the team. Just to give you a rough idea of how much work a translator needs to do, each subtitle is about 3000 lines with around 10 words in each line. However we don’t expect new translators to be doing audio lines (That is the job of either me or Bollocks) and so you will only be expected to cover the onscreen subtitles which is on average about 700 lines. Onscreen subtitles do have a few more words per line than audio only because we have to color code all the words for our typesetters but it’s not too much more. In terms of time estimates it usually takes me or Bollocks about 1 week to do a complete onscreen script if we spend about an hour or two a day on it (Approximately 150 lines ish a day is a doable goal). Also we are looking for English editors to help out with our subtitle editing and quality control. For this role you really need a good grasp of English and enjoy reading a lot of dodgy Engrish lines at times (We’re not perfect translators you know). You don’t really need to know any Korean for this role nor do you need to know any of the technical workings for Aegisub (Our subtitle program) but it would help. Expect to do a complete edit (Go through a subtitle, check for grammar errors, spelling errors, idioms etc) once every 2 weeks or so. Unfortunately for typesetters, we are currently looking for people with some experience working on aegisub and doing typesets. We would usually ask for anyone willing to learn the program but we currently don’t have any senior typesetters free at the moment and if you join the team as a typesetter with no experience you’ll unfortunately have to learn everything by yourself with limited help from our team members. If you still think that you can learn how to do it and you don’t have any experience we are still definitely willing to have you on board but once again the same thing applies as above. Please don’t join and then leave after a week or two. Typesetter jobs are fairly obvious once you watch one of our subtitles proper. They are the ones responsible for doing all the coloring of words, choosing suitable fonts, matching animations within the confines of aegisubs and other beautification jobs. It currently takes our junior typesetters about 2~3 weeks to do about 700 lines of typesetting and most learned how to do it by looking over our old subtitles and just learning from reference. Anyway if you think you can fill any of the above roles, please PM either me or Bollocks and state you would like to join the team. Thanks Have a merry christmas and happy new year~ Keep Safe and we’ll see you all again in the New Year~ Subtitle Notes Operation: Land In New York Part 2, The National “Point” Vote Results Operation: Land in New York is somewhat related to the New York special from a few years back when the IC team ran this Bibimbap ad in the New York Times http://i.imgur.com/DUdgl.jpg This time they are doing a video ad that will be aired at Times Square. The first episode of this special thou mainly covers the Members interviewing foreigners in Korea about what they think about the country and you get to hear the Members amazing(?) attempts at English. If you don’t mind some spoilers here is the completed ad that was aired last year at Times Square http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HmZbAm2YeXs There is also an extended 60 sec version of the ad http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ANM2chFwyiU If you happen to live in New York, they are supposedly still showing this ad on the TSQ electronic billboard from now till early January. The National “Point” Vote Results This is a continuation of a minor disagreement that occurred during EP222 (7 Different View Points Special) that eventually resulted in their adlibs going to a national vote. We have previously mentioned that we won’t be subbing this episode and this still stands true. It really isn’t worth the trouble and you’re better off if we don’t spend time on this. We will however explain how the adlib arose. During Ep222, they were having a meeting and proposing ideas for new specials. They then each judged each of the ideas and gave out points to each idea. Jung Jun Ha gives someone a “Sausage Bread Point” while Park Myung Soo gives someone a “Moon Ik Jeom(Point).” More details can be seen in the respective episode thread here http://dddfanclub.com/index.php?showtopic=99 and in the subtitles for Epiosde 227 Also an explanation about driver licenses. In Korea there is 2 sets of licenses. There is a class 2 licenses that is qualified to drive most cars however you require a class 1 licenses for anything bigger than a sedan (It’s by the amount of people a vehicle can carry, less than 10 is Class 2 and anything greater is Class 1). There is more to this but that’s all that is really needed for you to understand the context within the episode If there is anything you are unsure of, head over to the episode discussion thread and ask away! Discussion Thread: http://dddfanclub.com/index.php?showtopic=119 Requirements Now to get the most out of these subs, there are certain issues that need to be addressed. The subs only display properly on Media Player Classic - Home Cinema edition with a valid codec pack There is a few ways of meeting this requirement You can either just download MPC -HC if you have a codec pack at http://mpc-hc.sourceforge.net/ Or you can get a codec pack, that also includes MPC - HC you can either get K - Lite Codec Pack Standard at http://codecguide.com/download_kl.htm Or CCCP http://www.cccp-project.net/ I personally recommend K - Lite since it is updated more often and newer For everyone else, if you want we will also release a version without the detailed typesetting if it's requested For Mac Users We currently recommend using the latest version of VLC at http://www.videolan.org/ or Movist at http://code.google.com/p/movist/ or Mplayer Extended at http://mplayerosx.sttz.ch/ We have also gotten a report from @rimu5 that the latest version of Quicktime and a Mac Codec Pack should also work well with our subtitles thanks to @rimu5 Hopefully one of the three should work with our typesetted subs, we unfortunately don't have a mac user to test these but feedback from other anime subbing groups seem to suggest that these should work the best on the Mac Platform RAW Videos RAW Video required for the subs is the HANrel SD Video We cannot guarantee that the subs will work correctly with other release groups (E.g Baros, KaRot etc) We also cannot guarantee that the subs will work with the 450p and 720p versions of the HANrel videos (They should work 80% of the time but might have a few onscreen placement issues in MPC-HC, but not in VLC) You can now also get certain RAW videos from each of the episode discussion threads here thanks to our dedicated brigade of IC fans antisobriety’s Infinity Challenge Raw Files New Links thread:- http://dddfanclub.com/index.php?showtopic=312&st=0 mariin’s IC Raw - Mediafire (filling in the gaps) thread:- http://dddfanclub.com/index.php?showtopic=337 Recruitment We are currently looking for more team members for the DDD IC Subbers. We are currently looking for almost anyone who is willing to help out regularly and consistently. 1. Typesetters (Priority) 2. Translators (Korean --> English and Chinese --> English) 3. Editors As long as you are willing to learn new things then it should be fine How will this work? You can PM lordbordem/Bollocks about joining the subbing team, we will then provide instructions over PM. It will probably involve asking you to add one of us to Facebook, so that we can add you to our work groups You will be ranked up to subbing intern once you submit one piece of release ready work. You will then be moved up to full subbing team member after submitting 3 pieces of release ready work. The details will be explained once you join the group. The team numbers will be capped at 20 members for now. Thank you for reading! Subtitles Now here are the subs....
