![]() The Dirty Dangerous Difficult Subbers Fast Team Present... Episode 156 - Palace Millionaire Special Part 1 Credits : acestriker32, armx, Bollocks, Dryaa, jamieguo28, jm.m, ka6_jeram, lordbordem, lushtea, magichouse, oneechan131, rayevang, shiphire, skyccm, togsoo1206, VandalIce, ZiyaadXD DDD Team News Hey there! Here we go again with a subtitle from the DDD Fast Team~ It is Part 1 of the Palace Millionaire Special! This is a fun special, parodying the famous movie, Slumdog Millionaire. It's particularly enjoyable where the members tour around the palaces in Seoul and solve various missions, in order to take part in a quiz show one week later. Very much like in the movie, the answers to the quiz show can be recalled from their memories of what happened during the earlier recording. The next release from DDD will be Episode 157, Palace Millionaire Special Part 2. From there on we will move to the final part of the Calendar Special, Episode 226. The fast Team will then move on to Episode 250, The Infinity Company Outing, the very first of the memorable Infinity Company skits. We have decided to move alternately between newer and older specials to freshen things up a bit. It has been a week with some pretty encouraging news on the MBC Strikes front, so hopefully there will be a conclusion to this long drawn out saga, and we will finally get to see our beloved 7 guys back on the screen. As mentioned in the release notes of Episode 225 by lordbordem, I too hope that there will be more activity on the forums so we can at least feel the fruits of our labour. It is good and all that the shoutbox is used for some discussions but it would be great if it extended more into the forum and threads as well ![]() And as usual we are always looking for new members to join our subbing team, especially translators, considering only me and LB are the only active translators on the team at the moment. Translators from Korean-English and even Chinese-English would be extremely helpful given that we are extremely shorthanded in that department currently. If you are interested in helping, please PM either Bollocks or Lordbordem about it. We don't bite! Alright we do nibble a little... ![]() As mentioned before, there will be a glossary to explain most of the stuff that are mentioned in the episode. If there is anything we forgot, you can always head over to the episode discussion thread and ask! I hope you enjoy this episode. Until the next release then! Bbyong~! Subtitle Notes Episode 156 - Palace Millionaire Special Part 1 As there are a HUGE amount of historical and cultural references in this episode, we will attempt to cover them for the sake of our members who are historical boffins and/or are interested in this side of things in Korea. ![]() Here are a few basics before we start off on the names of locations and people: Gung - Palace i.e. Gyeongbokgung, Changdeokgung, Changgyeonggung Jeon - Hall i.e. Sujeongjeon, Jiphyeonjeon, Geunjeongjeon Mun - Gate/Entrance i.e Gwanghwamun, Mansemun, Sungjeonmun Gun - Prince i.e Gwanghaegun, Heungseon Daewongun ---------------- Five Grand Palaces - These palaces were built during the Joseon Dynasty in Seoul and includes Gyeongbokgung, Changdeokgung, Changgyeonggung, Gyeonghuigung, and Deoksugung Gyeongbokgung - The palace was originally constructed in 1395 by King Taejo, the first king and founder of the Joseon Dynasty. It served as the main palace for more than 500 years. The majority of the palace was burnt down during the Japanese invasions of Korea (1592-1598). The buildings would be reconstructed during the regency of Heungseon Daewongun, in 1867. The original reconstructed buildings which have survived the Japanese Rule of Colonial Korea and the Korean War are Geunjeongjeon, Gyeonghoeru, Hyangwonjeong, Jagyeongjeon, Jibokjae, Sajeongjeon and Sujeongjeon. Queen Dowager played a critical role in bringing King Gojong to the throne. The chimneys of Jagyeongjeon are decorated with the Ten Symbols of Longevity to wish for a long life for the late queen and the west walls of the compound with floral designs. The building and its decorative walls were registered as Korea's Treasure No. 809. Of all the existing living quarters in Gyeongbokgung, this is the only structure dating to the Joseon period. Jiphyeonjeon is credited as the place where it was conceived. Jibokjae - It is a two-story private library used by King Gojong Irworoakdo aka Irworobongdo aka Irwolgonryundo is a Korean folding screen with a landscape painting of a sun and moon and five peaks set behind the king's royal throne during the Joseon Dynasty. The sun and moon symbolize the king and the queen while the five peaks denotes a mythical place. Heungseon Daewongun - Daewongun translates as the "Prince of the Great Court", a title granted to the father of the reigning monarch when that father did not reign himself. He is the father of Emperor Gojong, the penultimate Joseon monarch. Heungseon Daewongun was the main proponent of isolationism and the instrument of persecution of native and foreign Catholics. Changdeokgung- It is the second palace after Gyeongbokgung which was established as the primary palace. Changdeokgung was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1997. Portions of the palace was used for the filming of the hugely popular korean drama from 2003, Dae Jang Geum starring Lee Young Ae. Huwon (Rear Garden) - This 78-acre garden lies behind the Changdeokgung palace and was originally constructed for the use of the royal family and palace women. Other names for this garden are Geumwon (Forbidden garden) and Biwon (Secret Garden) Deoksugung - Originally the residence of Prince Wolsan, this residence became a royal palace during the Imjin war after all the other palaces were burned in 1592. King Gwanghaegun was crowned in this palace in 1608 and renamed it to Gyeongungung. Nyang - Nyang is the old Korean currency, a cognate of the Chinese tael (pronounced "liang" in Chinese) Jeong Yak Yong (1762-1836) often known by his pen name, Dasan, was one of the great thinkers of the later Joseon Period and wrote highly influential books about philosophy, science and theories of government. Jang Yeong Sil was a prominent Korean scientist and astronomer during the Joseon Dynasty. King Sejong the Great's policy of selecting officials based on their talent and not by wealth and social class, led to him being working as a government official in the palace. The talented scientists recruited under King Sejong's program worked at Jiphyeonjeon. Jang Yeong Sil's inventions include the rain gauge and the water gauge. Park Yeon is the naturalized name of Jans Janse Welteveree a Dutch sailor who was captured and handed over to Joseon authorities. Gyeonghuigung - In the latter Joseon period, Gyeonghuigung served as the secondary palace for the king, where the king moves to in times of emergency. Unhyeongung - It was formerly a residence of Heungseon Daewongun, father of Emperor Gojong. Gojong himself lived in this residence until the age of 12 when he assumed the throne. Discussion Thread: http://dddfanclub.com/index.php?showtopic=348 Requirements Now to get the most out of these subs, there are certain issues that need to be addressed. The subs only display properly on Media Player Classic - Home Cinema edition with a valid codec pack There is a few ways of meeting this requirement You can either just download MPC -HC if you have a codec pack at http://mpc-hc.sourceforge.net/ Or you can get a codec pack, that also includes MPC - HC you can either get K - Lite Codec Pack Standard at http://codecguide.com/download_kl.htm Or CCCP http://www.cccp-project.net/ I personally recommend K - Lite since it is updated more often and newer For everyone else, if you want we will also release a version without the detailed typesetting if it's requested For Mac Users We currently recommend using the latest version of VLC at http://www.videolan.org/ or Movist at http://code.google.com/p/movist/ or Mplayer Extended at http://mplayerosx.sttz.ch/ We have also gotten a report from @rimu5 that the latest version of Quicktime and a Mac Codec Pack should also work well with our subtitles thanks to @rimu5 Hopefully one of the three should work with our typesetted subs, we unfortunately don't have a mac user to test these but feedback from other anime subbing groups seem to suggest that these should work the best on the Mac Platform RAW Videos RAW Video required for the subs is the Ental SD Video We cannot guarantee that the subs will work correctly with other release groups (E.g Baros, KaRot etc) We also cannot guarantee that the subs will work with the 450p and 720p versions of the HANrel videos (They should work 80% of the time but might have a few onscreen placement issues in MPC-HC, but not in VLC) You can now also get certain RAW videos from each of the episode discussion threads here thanks to our dedicated brigade of IC fans antisobriety’s Infinity Challenge Raw Files New Links thread:- http://dddfanclub.com/index.php?showtopic=312&st=0 mariin’s IC Raw - Mediafire (filling in the gaps) thread:- http://dddfanclub.com/index.php?showtopic=337 Recruitment We are currently looking for more team members for the DDD IC Subbers. We are currently looking for almost anyone who is willing to help out regularly and consistently. 1. Typesetters (Priority) 2. Translators (Korean --> English and Chinese --> English) 3. Timers As long as you are willing to learn new things then it should be fine How will this work? You can PM rayevang/lordbordem/magichouse/Bollocks about joining the subbing team, we will then provide instructions over PM. It will probably involve asking you to add one of us to Facebook, so that we can add you to our work groups You will be ranked up to subbing intern once you submit one piece of release ready work. You will then be moved up to full subbing team member after submitting 3 pieces of release ready work. The details will be explained once you join the group. The team numbers will be capped at 20 members for now. Thank you for reading! Subtitles Now here are the subs....
