★ Infinity Challenge <Face off> ① ★
The very scary guys that are hip to the bone are coming! It’s a life or death situation! It’s the war of the ugly dudes! Infinity Challenge <Face off> the first battle!

# Lets live a kind life, OB VS Lets live with a smile, YB
After the “Gangs of Seoul” event with the battle against the “Big Bang Gang,” The “IC gang” parts ways into 2 separate gangs due to extreme internal conflict. They engage in war once again to decide who gets to have Seoul within their grasps! The 2 gangs set out to buff up their ranks with new recruits to secure victory. The Yeongheedong loser, The Pyeongchang Seaweed… and the Mapo Honey Fists as well. The OB Team, who won last week, has acquired the right to choose first and will be making their choices as the composition of both teams slowly starts to appear!

# Gain control of the luxurious headquarters and vehicles!
The gangs have now been completely formed! They engage in their first battle in an effort to boost their initial morals. It’s a battle of “Chicken fights.” The appearance of the “Chicken Leg Strike” causes everyone to rush out and fight amongst each other. The fiercely contest battle of wits continue and next they engage in a battle of brute strength. They need to drag a van holding their gang members with their foreheads! Hey! You can’t bring a cow to a match against people! That’s cheating! Wait? Is that a human or a beast? The extremely powerful “Bigfoot” appears in front of them! It’s a closely fought battle with the gang’s pride at stake. Which gang will be able to take the upper hand?

# The war scenario is finally revealed!
The gang members each gather in their respective headquarters. They need to decide on “The Boss” before the battle begins in earnest. Both gangs are deep in the thought before having to pick their bosses. Who will be the bosses that will be able to completely befuddle the opposition gang? They are also finally handed out weapons before the real battle begins and the real war scenario, clouded in secrecy, is revealed in all its glory. The fates of the gangs falter minute by minute. What is the identity of these weapons that they’ve collected in this mysterious and secluded room?

Gil wasn't part of two team last week due to his US schedule, so this week he is joining as part of the "new recruits" hence why he is in the first photo with the other candidates but not in the 2nd picture with the pre determined YB and OB teams

Not much to comment on today's episode since it's basically Gangs of Seoul Part 2. Not sure either how this is going to differ from the Gangs of Seoul episode with Big Bang. The only thing I'm interested in is how the staff upgraded the game & how does Mook Jji Bba (묵찌빠) fit into the game.

Haven't watched the episode yet but if it's Mook Jji Bba then they would technically have multiple attempts at attack so it wouldn't be one-off like Big Bang was. So in this case weapon variety might factor more into battles.

Not sure thou because i haven't watched the episode but just the fact it's Yoon Jong Shin and Co over Big Bang hopefully means it will be funnier to watch

Don't think it will be mook jji ppa because how in the world will that work? That means one match will require multiple people to fight and it will reveal everyone's weapon. It rules will be the same as last time.

Some highlights of the episode:

1) Jung Hyung Don falling off the dock and landing on the frozen river.
2) Jung Jun Ha pulling the minivan like it was nothing. People calling Jung Jun Ha a cow.
3) Gil failing miserably at pulling the van when everyone was wishing for a twist.
4) Jo Jung Chi not being able to eat because of Jung Jun Ha and Defcon.
5) Jung Jun Ha telling everyone to considering Park Myung Soo's ramdon blurts as farts.
6) Jung Jun Ha saying everything will happen as Yoo Jae Seok says and he and Park Myung Soo are seasonings for the main dish Yoo Jae Seok.
7) Random religious commentaries from Kwon Oh Joong.
8) And all the random dialects to sound like gangster.

Overall, Jung Jun Ha was really funny today. I was kind of disappointed because the episode today is exactly same as Gangs of New York with Big Bang but having the Ugly Festival members as participants really spiced up the game. They're all ridiculously funny.

Can't wait for the next episode. ^^

Yeah i watched the episode and it's just straight forward scissors paper rock with the Mook Jji Ppa thing just being there to decide which hand they get.

I always found the original Gangs of Seoul episode to be a bit lacking just because of idol restrictions so i always wanted them to revisit this, and this is easily one of the best crews they could get to re do it.

I guess some might hate it because it's essentially rehashing old concepts (OMG Infinity Challenge isn't being revolutionary!!! They are growing stale!! Blah blah i'm a moron etc etc) but it's not like the game is the important part here. It's the characters and how the characters interact that makes up the meat of the episodes.

and yeah Jung Jun Ha and Park Myung Soo are really on a roll lately, they've been brilliant for the last couple episodes now and they are pulling out joke after joke with almost perfect execution~ Gil seems to have regained his confidence as well and YJS seems to have found a nice new niche for himself being the whiney old mother character that talks to much (In that he's really exaggerating it now rather than just doing it subconsciously before)

Usually I don't mind Infinite Challenge reusing old concepts if they were good or if it can be improved. Typically, when they reuse concepts such as music festivals, year end concerts or calendar, IC does it better every year. The Gangs of Seoul, however, I don't see any difference except the casts. I'm really hoping for Kim Tae Ho to put some new elements into the game in the next episode. I know he's a genius so he must have something up his sleeves.

Gil is doing a lot better recently and he still feels like a padawan compared the the other members, who are Jedi Masters. I hope his days will come in near future. He seems like a good person and definitely a genius musician so I feel really bad when he gets hate comments on internet.

LB, do you think Gil is getting more hate comment than Jun Jin in the past? Why do you think that's happening? Who do you think is better, Jun Jin or Gil?

I don't think we'll see any amazingly different game mechanics for this special, it's going to be pretty much the same as Gangs of Seoul. It's just a matter of what the current set of characters will do in the same situation that will be the focal point here. So i expect to see a lot more member to member interactions, negotiations, NHC being crazy etc than in the Gangs of Seoul episode.

Oh Gil easily gets more hate comments than Jun Jin, JJ didn't get nearly as much as this and neither did Jung Hyung Don or Jung Jun Ha in their hey days.

As for why Gil seems to get so many hate comments? It's hard to say, it might just be because he is a singer (But then again so was JJ). I think it mainly comes down to how brazen Gil was when he first joined the show. He had this happy go lucky attitude where he would act really naturally within the show and peeve off the other members for laughs (Like they all do) and i think it might have disoriented a few fans who took this as a sign that Gil wasn't paying the right respect to the original members. Also Gil used to be a pretty hardcore Hip Hop artist and the "cheapening" of his image might have annoyed a lot of his ex-hip hop fans. They tend to be a bit aggressive at times.

Also Haha came back not long after as well and i think people always just assumed that JJ/Gil were just temporary till Haha came back and seeing Gil stay in place and "threaten" Haha's position might have annoyed veteran fans.

As for why JJ never got as much criticism (And this will also answer your last question) well frankly he did bugger all on the show and didn't make enough impact on the show for anyone to really bother complaining about him. He certainly didn't leave as big of an impression on me during his whole time on IC as Gil did during the single episode where he made his proper IC debut (The Chungyang Special).

You can't really complain and write hate messages about a guy that was effectively an empty shadow

I thought about this for a while and I think I know why Gil was hated...

When I first saw Gil in IC I had no idea who he was. I never listened to Leessang or watched other shows that he was in. My first impression of Gil, "He looks scary." It wasn't a good impression.

Also, when I was a devoted fan of SNSD, I watched every single youtube vid with SNSD members. In one vid, Yuri and Gil were eating together and Gil gave Yuri a wrap (bossam). Turns out Gil put a bone in the wrap instead of meat. To make it worse, that bone was in Gil's mouth before he gave it to Yuri. I was f*cking enraged!!!! To make it worse, it seemed like Gil wasn't working so hard during the wrestling practice. He was always scared to try any difficult moves and showed little improvements unlike Yoo Jae Suk, Jung Hyung Don and Jung Jun Ha. Even my mother (she also watches IC) hated Gil. I really wanted Gil to leave the show...

I think it was Jung Hyung Don who slowly changed my mind about Gil. JHD is my favorite member (excluding Yoo Jae Suk) and he showed his closeness with Gil, being a duo and even making music together. Just because of JHD I slowly rethought about Gil. After Super 7, I root for Gil and hope for a brighter day for him.

In my opinion, people didn't see Gil kindly because it seemed like he wasn't working hard enough. Jun Jin at least showed his value in athletic episodes but Gil wasn't great at being funny or athletic. I think Gil was really hated during wrestling and rowing because it seemed like he wasn't working hard enough (same reason why I didn't like Gil that much). I'm sure he worked hard but it hard hard to see it on screen.

To remove 90% of the hate comments, IC should do another long term project, show how hard Gil is working, his dedication to the show, and most of his haters will disappear. I think that's how JHD and JJH gained positive views. Their effort in wrestling really paid off. Once Gil gains positive views from the people, he will be confident enough to be funny. Confident results to funniness. This was shown by JHD and JJH so I'm sure it will be the same for Gil. IC needs to do a long term project for Gil.

Adding the Muk jji ppa thing is such a great idea to make the game more interesting without changing game rule. The Gang of Seoul ugly friends version is so much fun :D

But Park Myung Soo also received the same flak for not trying hard in the WM7 special so it was hardly a one-member thing. But yes it is true that Gil was a bit vulgar when he first joined the show and yes i do remember that bone from Kko Kko Vacations on Happy Sunday (Oh my what an old show, also the show where Gil met Park Jung Ah as well)

And yes JHD has done a lot to improve Gil's image within the show and he's still doing it now, telling people last week about how they shouldn't write comments about how the 6 members are the best etc.

Also credit to PMS who has also helped him adapt to the show and makes sure he gets screen time by constantly playing with him.

The thing is thou what kind of special could they do to improve his image? It's clear that they do put some effort into it when they do the music related episodes. You can clearly see that during PMS's Concert and the previous song festival (West Coast Music festival)

Anything physical is not playing to Gil's strengths and outright character skits is not his forte as well (Albeit they did help him out by making him out as the good guy on GD's IC Company episode). I think something like the Pimple Break Episode where Gil plays a solo villain type thing might work to help him out but i think they are already doing a fair bit to help him lately

@sheena I'm amazed at how Kim Tae Ho and his fellow writers are always one step ahead of the members. Yoo Jae Suk and his team members guessed the weapons could be Rock scissor paper again and made a plan for each team members to pick certain weapon so they will have same number of rock scissor and paper. Of course the mook jji ppa foiled their plan completely. Even after eight years the members are still pawns of Kim Tae Ho. lol

@LB Gil usually gets positive comments from the netizens whenever IC does music related specials. Unfortunately IC can't do that frequently and there is KEPA so that's not an option.
I think the member Gil should look up to is Noh Hong Chul. Hong Chul is terrible at athletic and music related things but he never received that much criticism compared to Gil. Even though he was terrible, people still cheered for Noh because he worked really hard to be better. In Aerobic Special he attended the most amount of practices to catch up with other members. And so, not too many hate comments followed Noh. Gil doesn't have to be good at sports, he just has to show how hard he practices to gain the viewers' hearts. Any long term project will improve his image as long as he works hard and Kim Tae Ho shows that to the audience. That will be the fastest way to improve his image.
Also, show how close Gil is with other members. Show the humane side of Gil and how great his personality is and his image will improve like magic. In PMS's How about this, Gil gave PMS so much support and what do you know? It improved his image a bit. More of this and most of the hate comments will disappear.

This is an interesting discussion that is not really about the ep. . . actually, I hated Gil when he first joined IC. . basically because he was not funny at all. But I think humor is all about confidence. . and since no one found him very funny during his first few cameos, he got alot of hate comments and he lost his confidence and he became even less funny. I only warmed up to him like many eps later becaise u see how hard he tries to be funny. . sadly its more of sympathy. I think he is a genius musician tho. Right now, i still dont find Gil funny but I kinda accepted him as part of the family. . So yeah. . junjin was not funny either, but i guess he had visual. . . sadly netizens are more forgiving to good looking people.

@raine22: "sadly netizens are more forgiving to good looking people."
The sad reality of Korea... I hate to admit it but Korean society is really superficial, caring so much about looks and how one is perceived by others. I think that's one of the reason why Junjin got very little backlash compare to Gil. If Gil was slim and good looking, things would have been a lot different. It's a crime to be ugly in Korea...
