Discuss Episode 286 - Haha Vs Hong Chul Part 2 ★ Infinity Challenge <Haha Vs Hong Chul> Part 2★ The big match to bring in the new year 2012. Haha Vs Hon Chul, match between the 2 guys to decide who really is the older/mature guy. Why are you being soo nervous about something soo insignificant? Don’t laugh at us just because these seem like trifling battles. This is as tenseful as the Olympics. A thrilling competition will be held. # 2ROUND Open the can! The winner of the 1st round, the free throw competition, was Haha. The 2nd competition of fate will now begin. It kind of looks like he has nails but also not. Haha’s strange nails are already famous(?). Hong Chul’s clever(?) game proposal, to use his opponent’s weakness to his advantage. The “Open the can” competition! Even the master Kim Byung Man is shocked by Haha’s half-length nail. However Kim Byung Man remarks “I’ll make sure that you are Hong Chul’s senior.” Starting with opening the extremely difficult canned peach and also becoming a martial artist. Haha receives the master’s secret techniques. This competition of records doesn’t allow for even a single mistake. Open 10 cans before the opponent. Haha, with his handicap from birth Vs Hong Chul, who is competing despite injuries. Who will be the winner of the 2nd round? # 3ROUND Catch the ball inside your pants Revealed on location. The 3rd round is a fair game proposed by the viewers. The audience will throw a ball…and you have to catch it in your pants??!!! The key point for this match is how well you work with the audience members. Haha’s Side Vs Hong Chul’s Side. The audience personally sets out to support the member they are support. The 2 guys appear wearing their elaborate flower print pants. Long arms and long legs, Hong Chul has the upper hand in terms of physical proportions. Or will Haha, with his quickness and stability, have the upper hand? The competition gradually heads towards the mid-way point. Haha and Hong Chul’s thrilling battle of the minds never ceases. Who will the goddess of victory support in this round? # 4ROUND Chicken Fight Infinity Challenge’s official king of chicken fights, Hong Chul. I will completely burst your bubble! Haha proposes his ambitious challenge. The 2 guys are practicing their chicken fight techniques with a lot of spirit. Haha’s best friend and the strong guy of the celebrity world, Kim Jong Kook! Haha learns the greatest techniques from him to conquer over Hong Chul. The story behind the birth of Haha’s hidden technique, the “Super Tornado Hidden Technique Flying Knee Kick.” Hong Chul asks for special training from Julian Kang, who comes from a household involved in martial arts. I can reveal it now! Hong Chul reveals the truth behind the “Friendship House Chicken Fight Battle.” He may not be able to speak Korean all that well but he is an expert in chicken fight techniques. What are the Chicken Fight techniques that Hong Chul learns from Julian Kang? The silent stage reminds you of a battlefield. Their animal instincts explode out! This is the battle of a true man. The 2 guys are being careful and then engage in a closely fought battle. The winner and loser are all exhausted! The world’s most interesting chicken fight! Watch that impressive battle. # 5ROUND Endure being tickled! This time I’m certain of victory. A competition chosen due to Hong Chul’s proposal, “Endure being tickled!” He is absolutely horrible when it comes to being tickled, the really sensitive guy, Haha. He receives personal lessons from the master Kim Byung Man. Haha learns a secret method to enduring being tickled from Kim Byung Man, the “Get Hit Technique??” Completely paralysis every other senses with pain. What is the secret behind the “Get Hit Technique?” Haha is either going to die or being unconscious. I am the king of feeling nothing. Hong Chul. Haha’s difficult challenge as the fatal stimulus causes him to fade between life and death. Will the confident Hong Chul secure the victory? # 6ROUND Open the book! The 2nd competition chosen by viewers. We will now decide who really is the lucky guy. The game that you played with friends when you were bored, open a book at random and find a page with the most amount of people in it. We didn’t think this would cause everyone to become so nervous. This doesn’t involve stamina or any sporting abilities at all, this is a true lack of the draw. They are only to make a single choice. The fate of the people support me and their pride as a man is on stake. Haha Vs Hong Chul. Who will be the true lucky guy? Preview Video http://www.imbc.com/broad/tv/ent/challenge...ContentTypeID=1 |

What a suspenseful episode. The results of some battles were quite unexpected while others were what you expect. Kim Byung Man teaching Haha was very funny. Miss his corner in Gag Concert. Anyway, looking forward to the continuation next week. |

Ok lets just summarise what has happened during the time i was away. Ratings were 19.5% according to AGB Nielson. There was massive complaints about how the fans that were at the event were being extremely rowdy, pointing fingers, swearing etc every time they got eliminated. Tae Ho PD has appolgized saying the staff weren't aware this was actually happening and that it's their fault for making a format that caused the audience members uncomfort and disappoint, noting that he is sorry that he couldn't give them something better. The 2nd and last item is Julian Kang's training scene. Julian Kang mentioned that he actually recorded that on the 26th, which after the actual event. According to the footage on the episode, they listed it as being recorded 2 days before the event. Tae Ho PD has come out and said that while Julian Kang and Noh Hong Chul did talk to each other before the match, they couldn't match their schedules to record their discussions for the episode. Also they couldn't just leave it as is because then Haha's special training would have shown up 3 times on the episode, while Hong Chul would look like he did nothing. He didn't want to make Hong Chul look like he did nothing since they both worked hard, so he recorded the Julian Kang meeting after the fact. Taeho PD laments the fact that we unable to pay closer attention to the final editing process due to a production meeting and he appolgizes for this. |

oh my, I have been trying hard not to read summaries of the latter episodes so I can get surprised later. But I have been so curious with Haha/ NHC battle, definitely cannot wait to watch it. The list of the match looks interesting already, definitely a match that they pick to destroy each other lol. Cannot wait to see haha's short nail, so I tried to google it. But of course found none ;_; My friend also has an extremely short nails from nail biting for years, that she only has half length of the normal nails. Maybe that's what Haha does too ! hehe And also Kim Byung Man and KJK. I remembered watching Kim Byung Man at Running man, I remembered that his physical comedy act was impressive. No wonder Hong Chul picked him as a mentor. Them two on the screen together will be awesome ! But I am curious though, from last episodes, didn't they say that there will be a match about general knowledge and science ? Did they not use it at all in the match ? |

thats quite unfortunate that the program got critised for the behaviour of the crowd. There was only a couple of moments where that happened wasn't there? I remember one guy shouting 'It's not alright!' and a girl shouting something else but wasn't anything involving swearing. Were the complaints on the actual filming itself or the broadcast? Otherwise I thought the crowd was supportive and quite organised moving from one place to another...
And I must say the fact that NHC only had 1 meet up with Julian Kang made it look like he was massively unprepared and didn't take the competition too seriously... so yeah if they did not include that one scene he would have looked like the worst competitor ever
|

The complaint is about what happened during the recording, not what was actually shown on screen. A bunch of people went on DC Gallery etc to complain about people swearing after the 2nd round etc. I got an article about it going up on Soompi in a few hours time that is a bit more detailed but it seems like some people are just stirring up trouble. |

first, i voted for NHC, but after watching this episode, i turn my vote to haha.. NHC seems really unprepared & overconfident.. i thought the audiences who are invited to the show are IC's LOYAL fans, they are suppose to support it as part of IC family, aren't they? (like smo mentioned while he was watching live recording of IC I'm a singer parody) so, why would they want to well.. destroy their own favorite show? maybe it is because the power of the grand prize (a car for free, hmmm.. <_< ). when IC is gone, who will regret it? <_< anyway great episode, so far IC never fails me, it works!! and hope the next episode with come out fast..

Game dynamics changed with the addition of 3000+ people and free cars. It was no longer just a regular, fun-spirited battle, and I could see on their faces the massive burden on Haha and NHC to win and they didn't want to disappoint. With such huge stakes on the line, there will always be sore losers. That's just the nature of the game. About the training scenes, one could analyze that Haha being the weakling that his training scenes were justified as shown, and NHC being the stronger link that he didn't need much training thus the lack of training scenes. Even with the training footage, I honestly wouldn't have picked/expected him to win. The members and the audience along with the two participants were just as dumbfounded to find out how the results turned out. It's a bit odd to film after the fact, but they owned up to their mistake. Taeho PD is quick with the damage control. Why did Julian Kang bring it up anyway? Lol. |

I don't think Julian Kang really watches variety shows, so i presume he didn't really know about the context of these games. So it was just one of those lighthearted tweets, he just said something along the lines of Oh i recorded IC today, it's going to be really interesting, which he then followed by saying something along the lines of hmm that's strange, i recorded on the 26th but it came out as being recorded 17th. Can't blame him, he's just being honest. I can understand the staff's idea of inviting audience members, it would have been a nice way to get normal fans involved in something that would have been closed off, and to just spice things up, a prize is offered. It's just that some people seemed to be a bit more entitled than others. Despite what i said, there is defiantely a lot more messages now saying that the mood wasn't actually that bad. So this seems like someone has a vengence against the show more than anything, and i suspect it's the press. Some of the headlines were amazing, "Kim Tae Ho PD caught using petty tricks," " IC caught fabricating facts" etc etc. Some people really don't like IC and that's a fact. Incidentally, we still got 19.5% in ratings and that is i believe the 3rd or 4th highest rating program of the week. I think a drama, Gag Concert and perhaps Happy Sunday were the only ones we didn't beat. |

in that case, i can't blame Julian Kang either. i don't think i'll ever fall off the IC bandwagon, even if it's clouded with controversies lol. it's the greatest show ever, period. heck, the members can even ad-lib entire eps (amazing btw) if they have to and still have it do great! =D |

Yeah same, as long as they don't do anything that actually changes the results of games etc. That would be a bit harder to accept. I rate this scene change along the lines of those interviews they do on WGM. They obviously record it after their dates but the interviews are split to make it seem like they occured right after certain events in the date. There is always going to be a bit of filler editing to make programs flow. On a unrelated note, i'm slightly annoyed Kim Jae Dong didn't play a bigger part in the latest RM episode T.T |

Nothing to rant about, it just didn't seem like Kim Jae Dong was on screen as long as i wanted him to be. It was pretty much a Ji Suk Jin special, i don't necessarily mind it since they seem to be giving the lesser characters bigger game roles in the last couple episodes at somewhat expense of the guests. Nothing major, just wished i saw more of Kim Jae Dong on this week's episode of RM =) |

at the very least, JSJ got a proper ep. i was rooting for him to win, but instead we got a very predictable ending. -.- KJD's intelligence would've been advantageous to the game had he not been eliminated so early. it was really weird to see YDH on a show like this lol. he looked like a lost puppy the whole time. he's better off doing talk shows. ^^" k, done veering off-topic lol. |

heh heh the thread just became a sub-RM thread all of a sudden! I admit I was was also not too pleased that the 2 guests didn't get more airtime than they deserved. Kim Jae Dong's cameos are usually really good. I liked his previous appearances on RUnning Man and also on IC. And I think those Chao chao guys got more airtime than Yoon DO Hyun! Though I had no idea who they were before this episode... Seems like they are trying to imitate some Chinese people?

Personally, the endings for RM have been pretty predictable for a while now. I think we've gone past the point in that show where the ending really matters, you end up just watching it for the content in the middle without really caring all that much for the ending. They are starting to make up for their somewhat repetitive game format through the strength of their own characters. It's not a bad idea in some ways i guess but the more character based they go, the less air time Kim Jong Kook and Gary seems to get. ah well. Yeah i had no idea what those Chao Chao guys were before the SBS Entertainment Awards. Lets be honest, SBS's Comedy Division have been a joke for a few years now. Not really sure why they were really needed in the show -.-" And yes i think they were meant to be imitating the Chinese considering the Chao Chao is a native Chinese dog. I don't place too much interest in the SBS Comedy scene, they tend to be rather crude |

Don't worry, i don't think anyone really like those comedy guys. The SBS Comedy crew in general has been getting some really bad press before for pretending to prank call a public help line -.-" It's just SBS trying to salvage what little they have left of their comedy team. And to think SBS is where comedians like PMS made their debut =( The only guest i've liked so far is Choi Min Soo, he seems to be the only one that seemed to be able to really get immersed in the scenarios they were trying to create. It helps that he is a great actor. |

Hehe PMS has traveled very far then. I suppose KBS is where the comedy's at? Choi Min Soo is scary good, interesting guy. Though I'd not want him to return anytime soon. It's best if he was sporadic with his appearances. That way the novelty doesn't rub off. =D |

Currently KBS is the leader for comedy shows. MBC isn't doing "that" bad but they've always been quite good at doing parodies etc. MBC is doing quite well parodying politics related topics right now. KBS "Gag Concert" is unbeatable atm no matter what the variety show. It's currently stable at 20~25% ratings. SBS used to have such a strong comedy base, even up to their Ohtchatsa days with Culttwo. Yeah true Choi Min Soo is only good on occasions and all his appearances so far have resulted in pretty much having the vast majority of the RM members getting quite minor roles. Speaking of which, am i the only one noticing that repeat guests on RM don't seem to work that well? Jung Yong Hwa was only great once or twice, Lizzy as well and now Kim Jae Dong. |

I think this is a problem RM has. Everyone out there wants their own favourite star to be in the show. At the moment the ratings are pretty good, so getting guests who want some variety exposure should be easier. Problem is having the same guests over and over again might please some sections but not others. Things get repeated and no longer retain the magic of the first appearance. Jung Yong Hwa must have done his 'Aigoo My belly' thing every single time he is on RM. I think Choi Min Soo's timing for the last episode was pretty good. His next appearance has to be even later back for it to be interesting. I thought Kim Jae Dong would have been great in a Sherlock Holmes themed episode which is why it was more of a disappointment this time around. Come to think about it, if they had cut some of the Chao chao guys footage a bit it could have been a much better episode. Seems like a PR stunt that backfired there! BTW talking about the guest on IC, is Kim Byung Man still on Gag Concert? I heard his 'Expert' corner got cancelled some time ago... |

I think that's the same issue X-men had near the end of that show as well. SBS, compared to the other 2 broadcasters, seem to be really into making heavily guest-based programs. Also the thing that made the Choi Min Soo episode great was that there was actually a story-related reason behind it and they weaved that revenge plot into the actual episode. Most of the other times, the guests are just making a re-appearance. The thing about the RM ratings thou is that i think it has more to do with the fact that Qualifying Men is getting old and stale, with MBC still frolicking around, not knowing what to do in that time slot (The time slot before IAS). I'm interested in seeing what effect 1N2D's end next month has on the ratings of all these programs. Will we see RM as the next 1N2D (Unlikely since i don't think the older 1N2D viewer ship actually likes these fast-paced more child like games) or will 1N2D Season 2 just continue the status-quo. I'm definitely looking forward to Kim Young Hee PD's return to the QM, RM time slot. His original IAS program has been the only program in recent years to challenge 1N2D and i think his star power and program style will have do a lot to pressure RM and QM. Yeah, Sherlock Holmes and KJD should have been a perfect combination. Most of Sherlock Holmes involved a lot of deduction and problem solving, didn't quite see that in the episode. I was hoping to see something more along the lines of the IC 7 Days Special where the clues were much more complicated and fitted better to the overall picture. And yeah Kim Byung Man's Expert corner got cancelled a while back. He was starting to run out of ideas so it was probably a good idea. He is still doing pretty well on Kim Byung Man's Law of the Jungle (The 2nd season is supposedly meant to come out mid this year) and his appearance on Birth of a Family is quite nice as well. |

I'm still not clear on this, did NHC actually went to meet Julian Kang to get some recommendations before the match or did he just remembered the staff's recommendation about Julian Kang and just managed talked to him (on the phone) without filming? The impression I'm getting is the latter. If it's the former then it was just a re-enactment no biggie. In any case I don't think this should damage IC's reputation that much. I hope. Re: This episode
I felt really bad for NHC. Didn't expect him to lose that hard. I'm thinking it started going downhill when he lost the 2nd round for 3000 people, and lost his nerves. I actually think having longer nails was detrimental for him. He got injured and it was over by then. Long delicate fingers vs stubby thick ones, yeah. Cans are not specifically designed for longer nails anyway. You could also see him losing his confidence after the 2nd match in the chicken fight round when he fell hard on his ass, he practically gave the final match to Haha. A lot of the times people were betting too much on how Haha would fail more than how Hongchul could win. I was rooting for Haha at first but after some time I actually wanted HC to win. Even Haha didn't look super happy about winning by that much lol.
I could probably hazard a guess on who wins the 6th round from
the shots of the audience in the preview of the coming matches.
And Teo PD wasn't lying when he said there was blood and tears. I see this thread has turned into a mini RM discussion session lol. I like it but it is so very frustrating, because I've pretty much grown to love the cast members (I'm not picky and I like seeing the dynamics evolve from scratch) but the production team is really dropping the ball with the missions and production planning. Even for a not particularly discerning watcher like me I feel like they're trying too hard to steer a race/mission a certain way without trusting the members to make it interesting. It's good tho that the PD are starting to realise that they need to strengthen their base and stopping the overseas specials. I'm hoping the Jihyo issue wouldn't affect them too much. |
